Vaccarecce-Scopeto: trail from lovers’ lighthouse on Giglio Island

There are several ways to discover Giglio Island. And one of the most appreciated by visitors, especially by those who love sports, are the numerous paths that cross the island. As the one from Vaccarecce to Scopeto. A pleasant walk on the heights of the island.

The trail

The starting point of this trail is one of the most suggestive that Giglio Island can offer its visitors: it’s in the locality of Vaccarecce, hence the name of the homonymous lighthouse, now disused and not accessible. The lighthouse of Vaccarecce is also known as “the lovers’ lighthouse”: the writer Federico Moccia was inspired by it to create the lighthouse in his novel Scusa ma ti chiamo amore.

You can see the lighthouse on the top of the hill which is located just north of Giglio Castello. The trail proceeds towards the locality of Scopeto. The entire trail is less than a kilometer long and it takes approximately thirty minutes, in one way or another. Even the altitude gap is minimal.

In conclusion, it is a very easy trail. If you are feeling fit, once you are in Scopeto, you could proceed towards punta del Fenaio (in this case, however, the path is much longer and more challenging).

Some recommendations before you go:

• Never overestimate your physical condition
• Several paths of Giglio Island aren’t suitable for mountain biking
• The equipment must be in perfect conditions
• Take with you a water supply.
