Giglio Island: the wonderful excursion to Punta di Capel Rosso

Starting from Giglio Castello, Punta di Capel Rosso is located at the southern end of the island. It takes about two and a half hours to walk to this promontory.

To be precise, it is a road, almost completely paved, which from Giglio Castello reaches Punta di Capel Rosso passing near Finocchio village.

The lighthouse

It may not be as famous as the lovers’ lighthouse, but the Capel Rosso lighthouse is also one of the must-see places on Giglio. The lighthouse has a tower-like structure and directly overlooks the sea. As you can imagine, the view from the lighthouse is simply breath-taking.

The sea of Punta di Capel Rosso is not only to be admired but you can go down and swim. Near Capel Rosso it is possible to find a stone staircase that reaches the base of the cliff. Being prudent, you can dive into a little-known stretch of sea on Giglio Island.

The legend

To make this place even more special, the name of the promontory comes from the legend of la bella Marsilia and, above all, from its red hair which, according to the story, would have made sultan Suleiman the Magnificent fall in love with her.
