He’s the patron saint of Giglio Campese. And every year, on August, the people of this place dedicate to him a feast that involves many visitors from every part of Giglio Island. We’re talking about San Rocco’s feast, that will be repeated also in 2015.
San Rocco’s feast in Giglio Campese starts on August 16th, when there will be a procession dedicated to the Saint and the solemn Mass. The feast then continues on the promenade of Giglio Campese, with the sinking of the wreath in memory of the Campese’s seamen death in the sea, and then the long-awaited fireworks show.
Another appointment that should not be missed during the San Rocco’s feast is the festival of the squid, that usually takes place on August 17th, when there will also be the party in the square, where you can see the traditional Giglio Island square dance.
While you’re there
Campanese is one of the three districts of Isola del Giglio. While you’re there, you can spend a day at Campese’s beach, one of the most beautiful in the isle. Or you can do an excursion on this side of the isle.
