Among the several dive sites of Giglio Island, this is a quite easy immersion, suitable for both beginners and experienced divers. And this place will let you admire one of the most beautiful coves of Giglio Island. All you have to do is get to the Scoglio di Pietrabona.
How to get there
Cala di Pietrabona is a small cove located on the southwest coast of Giglio Island, at short distance from punta di Capel Rosso, and it is easy to reach from Giglio Castello and/or Giglio Campese. This, in ancient times, was a port where ships docked to be loaded with Ansonaco grape vines. Even today you can see the terraces of this grape variety.
The dive begins
The immersion begins at the rock that rises from the waters of the cove. The walls of the rock arrives at a depth of about fifty meters. Yellow gorgonians, tunicates and Mediterranean fanworms color the walls of the rock. While among the canyons and crevices you can see lobsters and sedentary fishes.
In this area there are pelagic fishes. And, if you are very lucky, you will see some beautiful specimens of ocean sunfishes.
