Holidays on Giglio Island, Italy: this is the pink beach

When you say “pink beach”, the first place that comes to your mind is Sardinia and the (wonderful) Budelli Island. But there is another pink beach and is located just off the Tuscan coast. On Giglio Island, to be precise.

It’s the beach of Campese, one of the five most beautiful beaches of Giglio Island. It’s in the homonymous town of Campese, on the west coast of the island. It’s the largest beach of Giglio: it’s sandy, easy-to-reach and there are all the facilities you may need near the sea.

So, the sand: its colour is very peculiar. Because the fine golden grains can give surprising pink shades. A characteristic made even more unique by the sea: it’s turquoise, calm and the water is shallow for several meters (for this reason, it’s ideal to spend a holiday with children).

This is the “pink beach” of Giglio Island. Where to spend a day dedicated solely to sun, sea and relaxation. Now, there’s an island to discover:

  • From Giglio Campese, a paved road leads to punta di Capel Rosso, the southernmost promontory of the island: to get there, it takes about two hours by foot.
  • Another road leads from Giglio Campese to Giglio Castello. While walking, you will see the so-called palmenti: stone buildings that, years and years ago, were used by farmers to crush grapes.
  • And there’s a third path that will bring to the promontory of the sea stack: here, you will admire a really wonderful panorama.
