You’re spending a holiday in Giglio Island. You’d like to discover another one of the beautiful islands of Tuscan Archipelago. And you have chosen the destination of this excursion. Now, you need to know only one thing: how to get from Giglio Island to Elba Island.
Do you prefer by car or by train?
By car:
- Arrive in Giglio Porto and take the car on a ferry in Porto Santo Stefano. The journey takes about one hour.
- Arrived in Porto Santo Stefano, take the county road 161 and then the strada provinciale della Giannella (a county road) towards Albinia.
- From Albinia, take state highway 1 – via Aurealia towards Grosseto.
- Drive about ninety kilometres, take Vignale-Riotorto exit and take the county road 40 to Fiorentina.
- From Fiorentina, take the strada provinciale della Principessa (a county road) and then county road 398 to Piombino.
- In Piombino, take your car on one of the ferries to Elba Island.
The journey by car from Giglio to Elba takes about four hours and thirty minutes.
By train:
- Arrive in Giglio Porto and take the car on a ferry in Porto Santo Stefano. The journey takes about one hour.
- Take a bus to Orbetello station and then take a train towards Pisa or Livorno.
- Arrive at Campiglia Marittima station.
- From Campiglia Marittima station, take a bus to Piombino Porto (port of Piombino).
- From the port of Piombino, take one of the ferries to Elba Island.
The journey by train takes about five hours.
